A Fresh Take On "Something Blue"

When Salt Lake/Park City Bride & Groom Magazine asked us to design a fresh take on the old "something blue" aspect of a wedding, our team was full of ideas! Envisioning white pumice buildings overlooking the cobalt blue waters of the Aegean Sea and inspired by the city’s exquisite architecture and bold, romantic colors, we designed this Mediterranean tablescape to transport guests to Santorini, Greece.

Santorini’s simplistic textiles inspired the stone escort cards, which mimic the pumice used to construct most of the buildings.

The table design featured a blue-patterned tiled tabletop, which set the stage for baked ceramic dinner plates, hemstitched napkins, and hand-painted and calligraphed dinner menus on crisp linen paper.

Inspired by the plethora of colorful bougainvillea found throughout the streets of Santorini, we had the blooms arranged in local handmade pottery placed alongside baskets of artisan bread for nontraditional centerpieces.

Abundant baskets of bread, personal bottles of olive oil (which double as wedding favors), and potted herbs including thyme, oregano, lavender, and sage filled the table with the most incredible colors and smells. And how about that amazing blue rug the table is sitting on?!

Since food is prevalent at almost every type of celebration that exists in the Greek culture, the menu often consists of fresh breads, fruits, veggies, cheeses, olive oils, pastas, meats, and more.

So what’s a bride to wear for this Grecian wedding? We loved this blushing ball gown, featuring a hand-painted rose gold skirt. Rose gold jewelry, including earrings, a bracelet, and a necklace with blue tanzanite and chocolate diamonds, added the perfect finishing touch.

The incredible details of this design give us all the feels and we think you'll feel just the same!
